The Walker Family - The Smyth County Jam got a thrill and a treat when the Walker Family showed up here. They are also known as the "Redhead Express" and most of them have red hair! They are from Palmer, Alaska, travelling around and making music; being well-received everywhere. There are seven children, one chocolate Lab-"Cocoa" and the parents Brett and Apryll.
There is Kendra, age nineteen, who plays guitar and fiddle.
Next is LaRae, who is seventeen-(plus), who is an ace on the banjo and plays fiddle too.
Alisa is fifteen and handles the fiddle and mandolin well.
Meghan is thirteen and plays upright bass.
Sean is ten years old and plays fiddle and banjo.
Joseph is eight and plays fiddle and mandolin.
Ammon is six and able to do a good job on the bass.
This is a very talented group, courteous and very out-going. We are told they have been playing in public for about two and a half years, one would think much longer. All the members sing and most dance (clog) too. The boys put on a short comedic skit in costume, also. Brett, the father is in real estate and also coaches buyers mostly online. The children are being home-schooled, as they are travelling around the country in a large RV. In the RV they carry approximately ten instruments, of several kinds. They are planning to go to Tennessee from here and on into Georgia after that. They say they are almost completely booked up for the time being. The Smyth County Jam invites the Walkers back any time they can come
