Courtney Wright - Courtney is 20 years old and has been playing banjo since she was 13. She was born in Washington state, and is 2nd in birth order of nine children. We welcome her and her siblings to the Smyth County Jam anytime. Courtney has been home-schooled and is now taking courses on the internet to become a doula (which is one who assists at child birth.) in the mid-wife field. Courtney wants to continue her music no matter what vocation she settles in. She is an excellent banjo picker and is a favorite in the many local conventions where she has won and placed in the top 5 many times. She also says she plays a little piano in addition to singing with her sister and brother. Courtney plays a Blevins banjo that she got in 2010. Her favorite bands are The Dan Tyminski Band, Blue Highway, Third Time Out, The Infamous Stringdusters, Barry Scott and Second Wind, Mountain Heart, GrassTowne, Doyle Lawson and Quiksilver, Daily and Vincent, the Cherryholmes and lots more! Some of my favorite banjo players are: J.D. Crowe, Kristen Scott Benson, Earl Scruggs, Chris Pandolfi, Ron Stewart, Ron Block, and Barry Abernathy. Some of her hobbies are rollerblading, taking big walks, hanging out with friends, playing music, doing stuff with her family, and cooking. Courtney has quickly became one of the favorites at the Smyth County Jam.
