Birgit & Dieter Stoll - What a pleasure to welcome these new friends to the Smyth County Jam. They make their home in Tuebingen, Germany, Southwest. This is a husband and wife duo and they truly make beautiful music together. Birgit is a potter by trade, and has her own workshop. Dieter is a seismologist; tracking earthquakes. The Stolls have two adult daughters. Dieter plays guitar and that exceedingly well, and some banjo. Birgit handles bass and together they sing a wide variety of songs we are all familiar with in our area; some Carter Family songs, some Hank Williams, Jimmy Martin etc. Dieter says he has been playing bluegrass music since about 1973, with a lengthy pause of several years. At one time Dieter played classic rock for about ten years. Birgit has played bass about three years. They are following the Crooked Road and other music venues while here in the states. Dieter is a fan of Doc Watson and Birgit likes the music of Gilliam Welch. We did not get to see the collapsible guitar belonging to Dieter; perhaps next time. We at the Smyth County Jam, wish them well on their journey and invite them back anytime they can come.
