Skinner Family Band - The Smyth County Jam is pleased to welcome the Skinner Family from Bristol, Tennessee. The band consists of: daughter Alyssa, who handles the dobro with ease and grace. Alyssa is eight years old, just tall enough to reach the dobro with the help of her stool!. Zayn, age eleven, who plays mandolin and sings. Mother Jennifer plays guitar and also sings with dad Jason. Jason says he plays a little bit of everything, as he has taught the others to play. Usually he plays a fine bluegrass banjo, as well as being a very good singer. The entire band is striking in their poise and easy stage presence. The Skinners play at the Pickin' Porch at the mall now and then. So if you are there when they are on the show, they would love for you to stop in and listen. This band was certainly well received at the jam and we will be happy for them to come back when they are able. Jason was born in Edenton, North Carolina, and has been involved in playing about fifteen years. Jason tells us he is an ardent fan of Reno and Smiley; this is evident from the selections they play.
