Ben Silcox - Ben Silcox is a first-timer here at the Smyth County Jam. We are happy to have him make the lengthy trip from his home in Floyd, Virginia. He was born in Dickenson, County( Clintwood). He plays bass and says he sometimes sings a bit. Ben's great-gandfather played clawhammer banjo. He has two teenage daughters. Ben works for the Northern and Southern Railroad at Roanoke, Virginia. Ben played with Dave Evans and River Band some time ago. His favorite musician is Ralph Stanley. Ben says he patterned his bass playing after Jack Cooke, who played with Stanley for many years. We hope that Ben enjoyed Smyth County Jam enough to return as often as he can.
