Alan Shepard - Alan comes to the Smyth County Jam from Elizabethton, Tennessee. Alan plays guitar and mandolin, and sings really well. He states flat-out that he does not claim to be a musician ( which is modesty on his part) rather; he says "he comes from a singing family." Alan has been singing as long as he can remember. His interest in bluegrass music was stimulated by friends he met in high school. Alan says his son plays about any instrument you can name. His daughter Rhonda, plays fiddle and sings very well also. She and Andy Blevins from Smyth County have recently married. Alan says his favorite people in music are The Country Gentlemen, Charlie Waller, and Jim and Jesse McReynolds.
