Dan Roark

Dan Roark - Dan comes to the Smyth County Jam from Saltville, Va. He plays dobro and guitar. He is a member of the Dry Fork Band. Dan says he has played off and on for about fifty-five years; however, he has been playing recently for about five years. He is retired from Reynolds Metals. Dan likes about any musician who has the courage to get up and perform. George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Bill Monroe are among his favorites. Dan has three children, three grandchildren and one great-grand child.

William Daniel Roark Monday, April 6, 1931 - Wednesday, March 22, 2017 William Daniel Roark Saltville, VA William Daniel “Dan” Roark, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday March 22, 2017. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retiree of Olin Corporation and Reynolds Metals. Dan was a transportation bus driver for District Three for 20 years, and an avid dobro player with the band “Dryfork”. He was preceded in death by his parents Gus and Martha Roark; three brothers, Howard, Jack and Bobby Roark and a sister Shirley Tickle. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Margaret Ann Roark; daughter, Debbie Roark of Saltville; two sons, Danny Roark and wife Ellen of Saltville and Jeff Roark and wife Lynne of Fairlawn, VA; three brothers, Oscar Roark and wife Brenda of Rural Retreat, Leon Roark and wife Nancy of Rural Retreat and Henry Roark and wife Glenna of Glade Spring; sister Elizabeth Harris of Saltville; four grandchildren, Amy Prater and husband Greg of Saltville, Tonya Armstrong and husband Douglas of Marion, Nathan Roop of Florida and Eli Roark of Fairlawn; three great grandchildren, Nick and Dawson Prater and Jaxon Roop; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday March 25, 2017 at Henderson Funeral Home with Rev. Wade Kestner officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m . until 1:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Mt. Rogers Community Improvement Club, P.O. Box 4, Whitetop, VA 24292. The D.R. Henderson Funeral Home is serving the William Daniel Roark family.
