Mary Munsey - The Smyth County Jam welcomes Mary Munsey. Mary lives in Abingdon, Virginia. She is an elementary school music teacher at Watauga Elementary School. Mary is a songwriter as well as a guitarist, pianist, and plays saxophone, etc. She says she has written songs all her life; and during the winter with many 'snow days off from teaching, decided to find out if she could do something with her songs. Indeed she did just that; she submitted a song "Nine Days Old" and won a place in the Woody Guthrie International Awards in 2010! Mary travelled to Oklahoma to the Guthrie Festival and sang her song there. Her husband plays guitar in their band "Tennessee Green". The band has four members and they play for dances for the most part. Mary says one of her favorites is the late Pasty Cline.
