Eric McMurray - The Smyth County Jam is happy to welcone Eric McMurray back to the jam. Eric says he has been here several times. He was born in Kingsport, Tennessee and now lives in Gate City, Virginia. Eric is married and has three children, all grown now and two grandsons. He plays banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, bass and 'a little dobro. Eric sings also! He is currently playing with the Turkey Creek Band, and is involved with Tennessee Skyline Band, some of the time. Eric says his father plays guitar, and both sides of his family were singers. He became intersted in music from his dad and by listening to recordings. He has been playing music for forty years. Eric's favorite band is the well-known and well-loved Seldom Scene. A favorite song is the band's "Darling Correy." He says he heard about the Smyth County Jam through other musicians. Eric says his first impresssion of the jam is that it has great people, and he has had a great time here with us. He has been employed by Eastman in the engineering plant for twenty-four years. We hope Eric comes back to play music with us when time permits, we are glad to see him at any time.
