Asenath Cales Marshall - The Smyth County Jam welcomes our newest guest: Asenath Cales Marshall. She is a native of Roanoke, VA, now living in Chilhowie. A versatile musician-singer who has so far only shown her talents in singing and on the five string banjo. Asenath says she can play bass, guitar, mandolin and dobro. Hopefully she will come back to perform for this audience many times. She is employed by Wal-Mart part time ,and is attending radiology school as well. Asenath relates that she comes from a musical background, her father who passed away three years, ago taught her many things about playing and singing. Also, she recalls that her father's parents played and sang. She says she has been singing about twenty-five years and playing close to fifteen years. Asked whom she admires in the field of music, she says with no hesitation, "Alison Krauss!" Asenath has a young son, whom she describes as her only hobby outside her music.
