Michael Laws - Another multi-talented musician has shown up at Smyth County Jam, in the person of Michael Laws. Michael says he plays almost any stringed instrument, but leans toward banjo and guitar as favorites. Both of his parents played for years over the Elizabethton radio station. Michael lives in Bluff City, Tennessee. He is a carpenter, producing hand made cabinets. Michael has been playing forty-three years. He says he began playing professionally when he was nine years of age; by the time he was thirteen, he was teaching at the Karnes Conservatory of Music in Chicago--a child prodigy! Michael has made a life of playing bluegrass music. He admires the work of Earl Scruggs and JD Crowe.
