Agnes "Gert" King - Gert, as she is known, plays guitar and banjo and sings. She and her husband, Jim were taught to play by Emily Spencer, of the Whitetop Mountain Band. Gert cannot claim a musical heritage from family members; they both came to playing on their own. She enjoys fishing and cooking in addition to playing music. Gert is and excellent cook according to Jim. They both go back over to Mt Rogers School to take refresher lessons often from the Spencer’s. Gert worked many years at the Natalie Knitting Mill at Seven Mile Ford. Gert and Jim have a band called "Rafferty Knob Ramblers" with Sparky Hollins (guitar) and Barbara Walton (bass). The Smyth County Jam hopes both Gert and Jim will come back to visit and play whenever possible. Both Gert and Jim say their favorite music to listen to is The Whitetop Mountain Band.
