Selmer and Susan Humphrey - The Humphreys make their home in Mountain City, Tennessee. It is not often that they don't show up at the Smyth County Jam on Monday nights. We value their presence. Selmar and Susie have been married for fifty-four years in October of this year. They have six children, and fifteen grandchildren, all except one lives near by. Selmar says he met Susie in 1956 when he was in the Air Force in Kansas, (where she is from originally). Harvey says he used to play guitar and sing many years ago. He and a brother had a band when he was in high school. Selmar retired from the Air Force and went on to be an engineer at a carpet company. The Humphreys follow music many places, fiddler's conventions, festivals and other venues. Selmar says he very much enjoys the IBA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. From the age of fifteen, the Humphreys raised Kody Norris, as their own, to the age of twenty-two. One of Selmar's favorites performers is Merle Haggard. Two others are ladies from Saltville area ,Debbie Hardin and Filena (Hess) Keith.
