Roy "Sparky" Hollins - Sparky, as he likes to be called is a member of the great old-time band "The Rafferty Knob Ramblers." We are fortunate to have him visit the Smyth County Jam. Sparky plays guitar, bass and mandolin. He says he wrote some songs a while back. His grandmother played everything and sang as well! Sparky has been playing music since he was about twenty years old. He went from the US Marines into tree-trimming for the city of Richmond, from which he retired. Sparky was born in eastern Virginia, but now lives near Marion, Virginia. He has two children, both are adults. His wife is Jim King's cousin. Sparky says he enjoys all amateur musicians more than the professional ones. His favorite song is "Have I Told You Lately that I Love You." We hope to see more of these old-time bands at the jam, adding to the variety we now enjoy.
