Jack Hinshelwood - The Executive Director of the Crooked Road visited the Smyth County Jam on September 20th. Jack Hinshelwood was born in Montreal, Canada and is currently living in Shawsville, Virginia. He says he began to play seriously in 1972. He plays guitar and fiddle and sings. Jack was a civil and environmental engineer for a number of years. He mentioned being acquainted and playing with some folks who are well-known in our area; such as Wayne Henderson, Olin Gardner and Buddy Pendleton. He has two Albert Hash fiddles, one is named "Singing Maiden "and the other "Gratitude". Jack has a band of his own called "Celtibilllies", they play our own mountain music and also Celtic music, hence the name. They are based in the Shawsville-Roanoke area. He has three children an older son, and twin daughters who are entering college this term. All of his children play some type music presently. Jack says his grandmother sang and played piano. He likes the blues style of Mississippi John Hurt.
