Jeff Harkins - The Smyth County Jam is happy to welcome a new-comer to the jam. Jeff Harkins comes from Belmont, North Carolina, near Charlotte, NC. He has been playing music about thirty-five years, Bluegrass, about thirteen years. Jeff plays guitar, a little mandolin and sings as well. His grandfather was a fiddler in the old time band "Gid Tanner and the Skillet Lickers!" an extermely popular group in the 1930's! Jeff lost his wife not very long ago. He himself is disabled. He has one step-child plus two grandchildren. Jeff's favorite band is "The Balsam Rangers." He does not have a favorite song/tune. He says there are too many to pick from! Jeff came with friends who have been here before. We certainly hope he and his pals will return when possible. They are several hours away from Chilhowie.
