Keith Hammons - The Smyth County Jam gives a warm welcome to newcomer Keith Hammons. Keith makes his home in Howard, Ohio. He was from West Virginia originally. He is an excellent banjo picker and says he also plays guitar, and sings. Keith is the father of Vicki Compton, whom we know quite well, along with Ervin, her husband. Keith says his wife, Norma, and his son played in their own bluegrass gospel band. Ervin and Vicki also were members of the band. Their band was called "Bluegrass Revival". Keith worked for Frito-lay Company in Wooster, Ohio. He says music in the family goes back a long way. One of Keith's great-great uncles was a champion fiddler; Edin Hammons of West Virginia. Keith says he likes the music of Doyle Lawson. He says he likes a lot of bluegrass gospel songs, but cannot name a favorite. We hope he will see fit to return to the Smyth County Jam when he visits Virginia again.
