Phyllis Gaskins - The Smyth County Jam welcomes Phyllis Gaskins from Port Republic, Virginia. Phyllis and her husband Jim are friends with Steve and Penny Kilby. Phyllis plays dulcimer and a little claw hammer banjo. She has a really good solid singing voice and knows many old songs. She has an Audry Hash dulcimer. The Gaskins have been together since 1971. They have no children. Phyllis says she learned to play dulcimer from Raymond Melton in Woodlawn, Virginia. She has taken first place several times in dulcimer competition. We hope they will come back to visit the jam when time permits.
