Wade Cox (1972-2016) - The Smyth County Jam is pleased to welcome Wade Cox to the jam for his first visit. He was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, and now lives in Amherst, Virginia. Wade is unmarried. He is employed by an engineering firm. Wade plays mandolin, bass and guitar, he also sings well. He is in a band called "High Voltage". Wade's father played music. He got interested in bluegrass music by listning to Flatt and Scruggs, when he was a young fellow. Wade has been playing 25 plus years. He claims the Stanley Brothers for his favorite band. A favorite song is "Lonesome River." Wade says a friend told him about this venue. He says his first impression is that he loves the Smyth County Jam and is eager to come back soon again; we hope so too!

Franklin Wade Cox, 43, of Amherst, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016, in Lynchburg.Wade was born in Lynchburg, August 7, 1972. He was the son of the late John Robert and Viola Jones Cox. He was employed as a Concrete Inspector with Hurt and Proffit and was very active in playing Bluegrass music.Surviving are his brother, Robert Allen Cox (Lois) of Rustburg; aunts, Evelyn Campbell of Amherst, and Clara Hudson (Bill) of Gladstone; uncle, Dorman Jones of Gladstone; nephews, Dylan and Jonathan Cox; and a niece, Gina Cox.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Driskill Funeral Chapel, Amherst. Interment will follow in Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at the funeral home.Driskill Funeral Chapel, Amherst is in charge of arrangements.
