Donis Cook - The Smyth County Jam is pleased to have Donis Cook come to entertain us . Donis is living in Abingdon, VA, but was born in Jenkins, Kentucky. After twenty-seven years he has retired from coal mining Donis plays mandolin (he is a left-handed picker) He says he has been playing about twenty years. He comes from a musical background : a brother plays guitar, another brother plays bass and his father played banjo. Donis has a band called " East Kentucky Tymes" and some times he plays at Hansonville with the Dixie River Boys. He also has played with the Russell County Boys. Donis likes the music of Ralph Stanley.
