Smyth County Jam Bios

Tony Collins

Tony Collins (1961-2015) - Every so often we get stunned by the virtuosity of a guest performer at the Smyth County Jam. Tony Collins is such a one. Tony lives in Bristol, Tennessee, but he grew up in Chilhowie, VA not far from the jam. He is owner of Goodman's Jewelry Store on State Street there. Tony is a master of his chosen instrument--the guitar; although he says he plays fiddle and a “little” mandolin. He says he has been playing for forty plus years, since he was six years old! His son, Blake, also plays mandolin, guitar, banjo and saxophone! Jamie, Tony's daughter, is a musician too. See their Bios for more information. Tony says he mother played piano. He loves all music, and says he enjoys listening to Tony Rice's playing.
