Tony Burkett - Tony Burkett comes to the Smyth County Jam from North Tazewell, Virginia. He says he plays with the Back Porch Pickers as a fill-in/subsitiute. Tony plays guitar and mandolin. He plays for the Southwest Virginia Community College Bluegrass Band on a regular basis. They do several shows a year. He is also a member of Country Praise Gospel group in North Tazewell. He is mostly a self-taught musician. He took two quarters of mandolin from the college, which has a traditional music program and after that, he was on his own. Tony drives a school bus for Tazewell County and also works part-time for Tazewell County's local government. His favorite musicians are Paul Williams and Victory Trio and Doyle Lawson.
