Gill Brasswell - We have very unique visitors at the Smyth County Jam. The Gill Braswell and his wife Amy own a store in Abingdon, VA featuring stringed instruments; both old and new, along with many books and items related to life in the Appalachian Mountains. The store is called "CAPO"; named after their boxer dog. Gill has played at the Barter, in fact, that is where he met his wife; Amy. He was in the play "Man of Constant Sorrow", which many of us saw there. Gill is originally from Durham, NC. Amy is a Virginia girl. HG says he plays banjo, guitar and mandolin and is a strong singer. His talent is also manifest in the songs he composes. Gill's grandfather played in a gospel trio, his dad plays piano. Gill and Amy invite you to stop by the store and browse (hopefully buy) any time. It is located immediately past Highlands Ski store, same side of the road in a white house. You can also visit the website which is: www.caposmusicstore.com. Gill says he admires the original Carter Family and the music of the late Johnny Cash.
