Andra Beames - The Smyth County Jam is always delighted to welcome new-comers to the venue. Andra Beames comes to us from Florida (the Pompano Beach area.) Andra has a fine singing voice and plays mandolin and guitar. Her band mate, Doug Bates, says she is much too modest; that she plays about every instrument there is; including banjo, trombone, piano and castanets (among others!) She and Doug Bates are members of a bluegrass band in Florida, called GRAY LILY. Andra is a public school teacher (seventh grade). She has two children of whom both play the fiddle! She also mentions that she is a cat lover. Her favorite musician is Bill Monroe. A favorite song is "Sitting Alone in the Moonlight". Andra's father plays both bass and trombone, so the 'apple does not fall far from the tree, in her case! We hope that in the future she will come back to the Smyth County Jam and perhaps bring the Gray Lily band as well.
