Elsie Hogston Adams - No one has proved more faithful than Mrs. Elsie Adams at the Smyth County Jam. She is Larry Hogston's mother, and what a sweet, pleasant lady she is! Mrs. Adams says she is nearly eighty-six years old! To see her and talk with her one would think she is much less than that. She is very alert and “on-the-ball”, with an astonishing memory. Mrs. Adams lost her first husband (Ryburn Hogston) thirty-five years ago very unexpectedly. The Hogston’s had two sons; Doug and Larry. Doug is retired from Eastman and Larry of course, is head of the Smyth County Jam operation, website, etc. Mrs. Adams says she has no musical talent and has no idea where Larry got his. She says he just picked it up. Doug is not a musician. Mrs. Adams lost her second husband (Ralph Adams) in 2002. She makes her home in Saltville, Virginia. She has one grandson (Adam) and one great granddaughter (Kinnley). We hope she will be able to come to many more jam sessions; as she says she loves Bluegrass music.
