Russell E. Adams KONNAROCK, Va. Russell E. Adams, age 78, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va. He was a native of Konnarock and was the son of the late Kenny and Fannie Adams. He had lived in Washington, D.C., Nashville, Tenn., and in Maryville, Tenn.,prior to moving back to Konnarock in 1978. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of the VFW Post No. 4667 in Marion, Va. He was retired from American Airlines after 30 years of service. Mr. Adams was a member of the Mount Rogers Rescue Squad and a member of the Konnarock Seventh-day Adventist Church where he had served as head elder of the church. Russell was very active in all aspects of the Konnarock Community and will be sadly missed by all. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Everett Adams and Harley Adams; and one sister, Pauline Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Vivian L. Adams; two sons, Terry E. Adams and his wife Sharon, of Maryville and Douglas B. Adams and his wife Karen, of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Thelma Stamper and Anna Sexton, both of Sparta, N.C.; one brother, Henry Adams and his wife Mabel, of Konnarock; seven grandchildren, Chris Adams, Kristi Adams, Cassie Adams, Jennifer Smith, Abbey Norris, Rebecca McClure and Lorie Wilburn; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Adams, Carson Adams, Ty Wilburn, Zack Milam, C.J. McClure and Andrew McClure; two special friends, Fred Combs and Wayne Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Konnarock Seventh-day Adventist Church, with Pastor Garland Day officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Laurel Cemetery in Troutdale, Va., with military graveside rites by Highlands Fellowship Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home.
